Leeds’ only independent, authentic Spanish Tapas Bar

A fantastic journey & voyage of discovery

A busy Leeds Tapas restaurant via Bogota, Colombia, New York (and a huge hand from London) – this is the story of the fantastic journey by made Colombian head chef, Viviana Vivas and husband, Andrés, who, along with front of house partner Jesus, a Castellano-Manchego, and partners Mark Burridge and Andy Moore, have brought with them a truly authentic Spanish dining experience.

In the days of restaurant chains, mass menus and corporate dining, La Rambla welcomes you like an old friend with its relaxed, homely feel and ‘grandma inspired’ traditional Spanish cooking. Grandma’s chicken soup may not be on the menu, but her passion and love for food certainly inspires it.

Speaking of her experiences during the first 12 months, Vivi recalls “One day, while doing our very first croquettes, I had Andrés try them and a tear came out of his eye as he said: ‘If we make people feel what I’m feeling right now, then our job will be worth all the hard work’. I think he tasted the love and dedication. That’s what we want to bring to the people of Leeds.”

La Rambla has spent the last fifteen months doing just that with a menu packed with flavour, love and dedication to its roots.

Come and join us for Valentine‘s Day we’d love to make it special for you!

Local suppliers & seasonal cuisine

Authenticity is key to us. From the chef, to the staff; from the design, featuring hand-made tables, to the ambience enriched by oil lamps: everything is thought and chosen to bring the true spirit of Spain to Leeds.

We are constantly honing our skills and tweaking our dishes to bring you a little haven of true Spain. A taste of rural Spain, a few dishes handed down from parents and grandparents, some love and originality sometimes sadly lacking in mass market menus and corporate fodder.

We’d like to introduce our all new Set Menu for your convenience

La Rambla Set MenuThe La Rambla set menu is available for both advance bookings (and large groups) and also for meals ordered within the restaurant on a daily basis.

Please ask in advance should you wish to order from this menu.

Lively restaurant and great Tapas!

Friends annual get together and we couldn’t have picked anywhere better. Place was buzzing and the tapas concept was perfect. Food was outstanding but the service a little but below good but this was probably the language barrier as They were all Spanish. The chorizo el vino lived up to the high expectations. A must return venue!

What a fabulous restaurant! So welcoming, very authentic menu with a wide range to choose from.

Traditional Spanish meats, padron peppers, calamari and amazing octopus. A rare find on tapas menu in England. Great selection of wines. Lovely atmosphere, it felt like a place you could sit and eat and drink in for hours with friends. Great service and value. Our only slight criticism was charging for bread, this would never happen in Spain. Totally wonderful, well worth putting aside a few hours to spend here.

Brilliant Christmas Party

Booked this favourite restaurant for a work Christmas Party. For a Saturday afternoon there were plenty of tables already taken with diners and the atmosphere was very relaxed and pleasant. I have been many times before but my colleagues had not. They all stated how lovely the restaurant was and the food surpassed all expectations. We chose 3 dishes each and then shared each other’s. We were all able to eat and chat without difficulty which is most unusual in Leeds city centre and when we eventually left into the manic streets of Leeds we realised how lucky we had been to find such a gem of a place.
Favourite dishes were the Sizzling Prawns in garlic, meatballs, and chorizo in red wine.
The service was impeccable and our waiter was very patient whilst we made up our minds what to order. He offered guidance when needed. All round great experience.

Authentic tapas with a lovely atmosphere and great service – try the lamb cutlets!

I had looked up restaurants for a birthday meal, but as I need a gluten free menu I was impressed with the range of dishes which were GF. It is always a sign of a good restaurant even if you are not gluten free as it indicates that they are making the dishes themselves and that they are not arriving vac packed in a lorry!

It was a cold sunday night so we turned up early and were the first people in the restaurant. We we made to feel very welcome. The atmosphere is good with low overall lighting but the clever lampshades mean that your food is well lit without any lights shining in your eyes. We had a selection of tapas and then a mixed paella for two. Should only have ordered a single as we couldn’t finish it!!! We then had a couple of cheeky spanish brandies and coffee (well it was a birthday meal!!). I would highly recommend this restaurant. It was such a change to the chain style restaurants.

Great service and a great menu.

“Amazing tapas!”

We loved this restaurant. We particularly enjoyed out patatas bravas-just like being in Barcelona again! The wine was exquisite and the Paella really good too! We liked the decoration and the staff was friendly and attentive. We will be back as we all love Mediterranean food when it’s cooked properly! The prices were very good for what they offer.

Little Gem!

“Me and my best friend were in a hunt to find some great food for the evening. We were on our way to a different restaurant and stumbled upon this place and thank god we did! It was amazing, we had 5 little dishes to share between us and they were all amazing, we also shared a sangria jug – can’t wait to tell my friends about this place cause it really was fantastic. Fantastic staff who knew they’re stuff. Coming again for sure!”

“Si, Si, Si !!!”

This was a repeat visit to La Rambla and it certainly lived up to expectations based on the previous visit. We had 6 tapas dishes to share between two of us plus some bread(ideal for mopping up some of the tasty sauces). The quality of all of the dishes was excellent and the portion sizes generous enough for two hungry males and in my opinion this is the best Spanish cuisine I have found anywhere in the UK.

We washed everything down with a decent bottle of red and finished off with coffees. The bill was less than £70 so reasonable value for Leeds city centre.

If I have one criticism (and this is a regular moan of mine) the mark up on the wine is stupidly greedy.I have never understood why restaurateurs feel the need to charge 4/5 times the price they pay to their wholesalers.

“Another Great Meal”

We had an early meal before a Town Hall concert. As every time I’ve been the food and service were both really excellent. As a vegetarian it can sometimes be difficult to find interesting food, but this is no problem at La Rambla. Portions are substantial and 3 dishes are plenty. There are really excellent ports and great Spanish beers. Strongly recommended.

“Delicious food. Great service. Rustic ambience makes the visit feel like you’re away from the streets of Leeds. Highly recommended for an authentic Spanish Tapas experience! Estimated costs per dish £3.50- £4.50. Very reasonable!”

Authentic, friendly and delicious

“We were in Leeds on a wet and dreary Sunday evening and decided to give La Rambla a try as we love tapas and the TA reviews looked promising. Service was quick, the food was fabulous and very authentic; in particular the patatas bravas sauce was delicious and the chorizo in red wine was the finest we’ve had anywhere – including Spain! We’re planning our own tapas evening at home so asked for a couple of tips from the waiter. Turns out his wife was the chef who then came out of the kitchen to talk us through a few dishes. What a lovely couple and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Would definitely recommend for any tapas lovers, or just for anyone who appreciates tasty dishes prepared and served by really friendly people. 5 stars!”

Great tapas, authentically made and served just as it should be!

“I’ve been twice now, both experiences were excellent. Mother’s Day especially hit the spot – lovely food and atmosphere and catered for both kids wildly different views on food too. The Octopus was to die for!”

A bit of Spain in Leeds

“After reading the reviews for this Tapas bar, we booked a table for two, On arriving we were greeted by a friendly host, seated and given the menu, we were blown away by the choices, we could have easily chosen them all ! The Spanish waitress was very helpful and attentive. we had bread, belly pork (special) chicken, potatoes, mixed veg, stuffed mushrooms, all washed down with a bottle of cava. everything was cooked perfect, and timed well. After we had finished the host asked us if we would mind leaving the table as he had customers waiting, in return we had a drink on the house. we sat at the bar and enjoyed the drinks, which was a very nice gesture. we had a lovely evening and will be returning soon.”

Great People and Amazing Food

“My girlfriend and I visited La Rambla for Lunch. On first impression, the aesthetic of the restaurant was incredible, a real tribute to Spain. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and the staff were attentive throughout. The quality of the food was exceptional and very reasonably priced. The Spanish omelette and Calamari were amongst the best I have ever tasted and the accompanying Sangria was fantastic. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The best tapas in Leeds by a clear margin. Look forward to visiting again!”

Definitely the best tapas restaurant in Leeds

“Had a wonderful family dinner last weekend in La Rambla and it couldn’t be more better! Food was delicious, service was amazing although the restaurant was very busy. Kids enjoyed the food as well. Could not mention the authentic decor of the restaurant-everything reminded us of Spain. Overall, nothing to complain about-we surely prefer independent restaurants to overrated chains and La Rambla in on our number ones list now. Will be definitely back and highly recommend to all.”

“What a place! A little bit of Spain right here in Leeds. Taken here for a surprise birthday treat by my son and partner on Friday 3rd June. Greeted at the door by a lovely smiley lady, who took us to the bar. Wasn’t long before we were seated with a large glass of Rioja each. We ordered a selection of tapas, which was all superb. Nothing was rushed and we wiled away the hours, chatting, laughing and eating(with another bottle of wine). Service was great and had such a laugh with the owner and his wife. Place was lively, atmosphere brilliant. Needless to say we was the last to leave, the staff had started their own supper, but we wasn’t made to feel in the way. Would highly recommend this restaurant for a fun meal with family and friends. We will definitely be back.”
